FIRST Competition Volunteer
1 or more Saturdays in November-February
Broomfield STEM’s robotics teams attend multiple competitions each year, and those events can’t run without help from volunteers like you! There are many dates and locations to choose from, and there’s a wide variety of roles that need filled. If you’re just getting started as a FIRST volunteer, we suggest:
- Team Registration or Volunteer Check-In (Just a morning commitment and a few short online training videos to watch in advance. Then you’re free to go check out the action!)
- Robot Queuer (A full day commitment, this role will have you up and moving around and close to all the action. If you want to talk with the teams and see their robots close up, this is a perfect job for you! No advanced training or technical knowledge is required.)
- Robot Inspector ( FTC Only - A morning commitment with several hours of advanced reading and video trainings required. Some knowledge of electronics, motors, etc. is very helpful.)
- Competition Judge (A full day commitment with a few hours of advanced reading and video training required. Practical training is done the day of the event, and new judges will be paired with experienced judges as they learn. Judges listen to 4-5 team presentations, interview teams, and work together to decide which teams are awarded judged awards.)

Camp Counselors & Volunteers
Summer wouldn’t be the same without camp, and at Broomfield STEM we think camp is a perfect way to get messy and explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts in all their awesomeness. Perfect for someone who loves kids and STEM but can’t mentor year round, our camp volunteers can make a short term commitment that has a big impact.
Camp counselors should expect to be onsite for the entire week of camp, arriving an hour before camp starts, and leaving an hour after it ends each day. Counselors will be assigned a group of 8-10 students for the week and will be responsible for leading basic activities, ensuring the safety of our campers, and working with guest presenters and “experts”.
Camp volunteers are needed as support staff - helping with materials prep, activity set up, lunch monitoring and clean up, or running an activity or station. Camp volunteers are welcome to help all week, but are not required to do so. We’ll take you when we can get you!
All camp volunteers must take the FIRST youth protection training, pass a background check, compete our volunteer application and provide references.

Fundraising Coordinator
2-3 hours week, flexible schedule
Our approach to fundraising focuses on building and supporting the Broomfield STEM community in collaboration with members of the larger community. We think fundraisers should be FUN!
