Mentors and Team Coordinators
Our Mentors are the heart of Broomfield STEM, and they make a huge impact in the lives of their students. Time commitments vary from once a month to several times a week, and there are roles for adults with and without technical expertise. Please visit the “Mentors” page for detailed information.
Team Coordinators are needed to help with behind the scenes logistics; from rounding up paper work, to sending team reminders, to organizing small celebrations, to taking food orders for competitions, team coordinators are an important part of our mentor team!
-

Mentor Assistants
Our awesome mentors and students could use some extra adult help at their meetings. No technical knowledge is required, just a willingness to support our mentors and students and be an extra set of hands, eyes and ears.
Assistants can pick which program and group they want to help, and can commit to as few as one or two meetings each month or help at every meeting. A clean background check and reference checks will be required to volunteer.

Summer Camp Crew
Summer wouldn’t be the same without camp, and at Broomfield STEM we think camp is a perfect way to get messy and explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts in all their awesomeness. Perfect for someone who loves kids and STEM but can’t mentor year round, our camp volunteers can make a short term commitment that has a big impact.
Camp counselors should expect to be onsite for the entire week of camp, arriving an hour before camp starts, and leaving an hour after it ends each day. Counselors will be assigned a group of 8-10 students for the week and will be responsible for leading basic activities, ensuring the safety of our campers, and working with guest presenters and “experts”.
Camp volunteers are needed as support staff - helping with materials prep, activity set up, lunch monitoring and clean up, or running an activity or station. Camp volunteers are welcome to help all week, but are not required to do so. We’ll take you when we can get you!
All camp volunteers must take the FIRST youth protection training, pass a background check, compete our volunteer application and provide references.

FIRST Competition Volunteer
1 or more Saturdays in November-April
Broomfield STEM’s robotics teams attend multiple competitions each year, and those events can’t run without help from volunteers like you! There are many dates and locations to choose from, and there’s a wide variety of roles that need filled. If you’re just getting started as a FIRST volunteer, we suggest:
- Robot Queuer (A full day commitment, this role will have you up and moving around and close to all the action. If you want to talk with the teams and see their robots close up, this is a perfect job for you! No advanced training or technical knowledge is required.)
- Competition Judge (A full day commitment with a few hours of advanced reading and video training required. Practical training is done the day of the event, and new judges will be paired with experienced judges as they learn. Judges listen to 4-5 team presentations, interview teams, and work together to decide which teams are awarded judged awards.)

Fundraising Team
Broomfield STEM is growing, and so is our need for funding! As we move into an exciting new phase for our non-profit, we need an enthusiastic team of people to help us create a fundraising strategic plan and help us enact it. Roles for team members might include:
- Connecting with local businesses and organizations to ask for financial support,
- Writing grants and filing grant reports,
- Creating and implementing giving campaigns, especially our Colorado Gives Day campaign in October - December
- Coordinating fundraising/community building events
-

Spirit Team
Seventeen robotics teams means we need a LOT of t-shirts and spirit gear! We have the gear, materials and heat press, but we need help getting things made, organized and distributed to our teams! This team will be busiest over the summer and into the fall, and then again in the spring as we prepare for end of year celebrations.
Our Spirit Team also helps with mentor and volunteer appreciation throughout the year, sending thank you notes, preparing little surprises, and helping with appreciation gifts at the end of the year.
-

Team Clean
With so many students using our space, we need some help keeping it and our equipment neat, tidy, and less germy! (The paid cleaning crew does a weekly clean of the bathroom, kitchen and floors, so weekly cleaning is covered.) Members of Team Clean can choose to come on specific clean up days (quarterly), or can volunteer as their schedule allows: sanitizing toys, deep cleaning corners, or organizing shelves or closets. Every little bit helps our mentors and leaders spend more of their time focusing on their students.

Fundraising Coordinator
2-3 hours week, flexible schedule
Our approach to fundraising focuses on building and supporting the Broomfield STEM community in collaboration with members of the larger community. We think fundraisers should be FUN! Pizza parties at iPie, Bowling nights, dinners together, Parents' Nights Out, matching shirt sales . . . our fundraisers offer us time to play together and build community while also raising money for our cause. If this approach appeals to you, we need your help!
As Broomfield STEM expands, so does our need to fund raise. We hope to host 3-4 FUN fundraising events each year that have a high return on investment. (We want to spend our time on our students - not on elaborate fundraisers.) If this is something you would like to help us organize, we would love to welcome you on board!
